Mariana (Malu Galli), viúva do geólogo, vive com a filha Luísa (Luíza Curvo) no Rio de Janeiro. João se apaixona por ela, mas um amor de infância atrapalha os planos do casal: Camila (Maria Ribeiro), a filha de um amigo da família. Após a misteriosa morte de um herói da aviação brasileira, Paulo Matos (Walter Rosa), João e Camila resolvem seguir os planos do falecido e conseguem os estudos de Gosch sobre a bacia sedimentar de Alagoas e Sergipe.
