They chat, quarrel, reminisce, observe, remember, as she tries to rouse him to new life. Nothing very decisive happens, but we are drawn into the life of this odd couple by dint of the superb ensemble playing of the two principals. Thulin has the less sympathetic role, perhaps, but gives it a grave, inner tension.
