One day, Mr. Son and his wife make the acquaintance of a U.S. immigrant Charlie Hong (Heo Chang-kang). Charlie suggests to the couple that they invest money in a smuggling business he is engaged in. Enticed by Charlie's story of easy moneymaking, the wife persuades the husband to borrow money and lend it to Charlie. However, Charlie disappears with the money. Yeong-joon (Ahn Sung-ki), the son of the couple, leaves the house declaring he will find Charlie for his parents but soon dies due to a car accident. Son and his wife cry over the death of their son.
