This Sun King features a twin, even though, in the game of differences, it turns out that there are quite a few. Instead of Jean-Pierre Léaud, a non-professionnal actor whom Serra already worked with in his first films. Very different body weight, here in expansion, there in retention; a different way of putting his face in it: there, at the service of an astonished child’s gaze, here, singularly chubby, as if extending without any solution to all of his corpulence; here, the invention of sovereignty constantly reinvented, and there, the kingdom of innocence vaguely struck by idiocy. And the props: if the tale in the first version needed Versailles or an imitation of it, the second one reduces the palace to a luminous halo. True, this time we are stuck between bare walls, white-washed with pink coating (the color of twilight?) under neon lights at the ceiling. Here, for a long time, this king has been left to his own devices, moaning on the floor, with a stomach ache as severe as it is hilarious, with rare trinkets all around. Then we see spectators entering the field to see Her Majesty’s rants, his hair (as wigs were called then) and sumptuous clothes characteristic of that era, and spectators dressed in anorak. So what, then: capturing a performance? If the art gallery really frames the « action », what we find here is calculation, cutting up, montage; in short: a film, and no misunderstanding. Along the way, the daughter seduces men, stealing from them to help Alpha build an antenna so that he can send a message to their people at home. At the same time, the duo is being tracked down and must avoid being killed.An office worker named Dorine is called upon to do late work; her computer breaks down and she asks the help of a co-worker, Gary Michaels, who is electrocuted while trying to fix the wires. Dorine dials 911, but hangs up when the call is answered. She places the corpse on a cart, rolls it down to her car, loads it in her trunk, and takes it home, placing it in her furnished basement (we don't see the body until later). Then, seemingly without reason, she goes into a murder spree. She kills Virginia[who?] by poisoning her inhaler tube, taking the second corpse to her basement, placing it on a sofa, next to Gary's. Then comes the turn of two young Girl Scouts who arrive at her door to sell cookies. The young girls join the other corpses in the basement, Dorine seen eating the cookies with relish while working on her new laptop. Intriguingly, she sends messages from Gary to the remaining office workers, implying he is alive and has left the office or his wife. There are three more murders before the movie ends, all planned with cool design and seeming absence of malice. She is disappointed when her son, Shankar, who is arrested for breaking the law, and subsequently jailed, and she decides she will have nothing to do with him. She runs her life and is not dependent on anyone. When Shankar comes out of jail, he tries to make amends, but Yashoda outrightly refuses to have anything to do with a criminal.
